I have a confession to tell you…Did you know that I just LOVE French Onion Dip? Well, I do. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. I can lick it off a spoon, plain! I definitely don’t want to ingest all of the gross and artificial things that are in the commercial onion soup mixes. Here are the ingredients listed on the box of a leading brand (this is not for the faint of heart…)

Onions (dehydrated), salt, cornstarch, onion powder, sugar, corn syrup, hydrolyzed soy protein, caramel color, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, monosodium glutamate (MSG), yeast extract, natural flavors, disodium inosinate, disodium guanylate.

Made in a facility that processes milk, eggs, soy, wheat, sesame and sulfites.

The “ingredients” (and I use that word lightly in this instance) that I highlighted in yellow are CRAP! Complete crap and you should not eat them!!! Here is the awesome news…I have an all natural recipe so you can make your very own “health-ified” Onion Soup Mix. Just be sure to purchase beef bouillon powder without MSG. I use this whenever onion soup mix is called for in a recipe.


3/4 cup instant minced onion
1/3 cup beef bouillon powder ( natural and without MSG)
4 teaspoons onion powder
1/4 teaspoon crushed celery seed
1/8 teaspoon stevia, powdered


  1. Combine all ingredients and store in an airtight container. ( I store mine in a washed out almond butter jar- Great way to re-use a resource)

TIP: About 5 tablespoons of mix are equal to one, 1¼-ounce package.
TIP: To make Onion Dip: Mix 5 tablespoons with 2 cups (one pint) of high quality sour cream.
